Breastfeeding

Baby Friendly NL is an organization that protects, promotes, and supports breastfeeding during pregnancy, birth, and beyond within Newfoundland and Labrador. Lots of fabulous information available from this site. 


Meaghan Burridge offers breastfeeding classes. Meaghan is a breastfeeding peer supporter and Breastfeeding Counsellor.


Le Leche League in St. John'sencourages, promotes and provides mother-to-mother breastfeeding support and educational opportunities as an important contribution to the health of children, families and society

Mother Risk: information on drugs during pregnancy and while breastfeeding.


Dr. Jack Newman: Aim to empower parents by ensuring they receive the most up-to-date information to assist them with their breastfeeding baby. Resources to help to diagnose breastfeeding concerns, treat pain, milk supply issues, concerns around babies’ health as related to feeding, and help to prevent future problems.

Please contact your nearest emergency room for immediate help. The first point of contact into the public mental health support system is your family doctor. They can get a mom started on anti-depressants or other relevant medication before referring to psychology and/or psychiatry. Often the need for medication is short lived in new moms and can be the lift they need. Adults with mental health concerns can also self-refer to the START Clinic.


Breastfeeding Moms are sometimes concerned about medications. Here's a podcast with great information.
